I must admit I'm not usually a fan of "slash" fic: it often feels forced; little more than an excuse to turn actors into an author's kinky glove puppets.
This story is in a different hemisphere, so enough about that.
Your last fic was assured, and this one built on the setup. I liked Max the last time I saw her, and I liked her even more here: you're fleshing out (no cheap pun I swear!) your characters adeptly; peeling away layers one at a time. Good stuff. Sam and Dr. Fraiser's relationship felt genuine and never forced. Adding in the ramifications of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was a clever touch that grounded the whole thing in reality. (If an unjust and unpleasant one.)
Arsehole Attitude Adjustors indeed! I laughed out loud at that. You've got a wicked sense of humour, and it really works to your stories' advantage. (I can think of a few candidates of my own, though none as unworthy as the two scumbags who set about Janet.)
The only bit that read awkwardly to me was the actual sex scene. Not for prudish Mary Whitehouse reasons I hasten to add, but because plain descriptions of sex not linked to descriptions of character always feel a bit cold and anatomical to me. (I tend not to read fics for the *other* purpose.
) Personal preference obviously.
I said I wanted more and I wasn't disappointed. All I'm left to do is reiterate that sentiment!
Quick note: I've added the standard content warning, and though I've left it at 15 because of the implied sexual violence, the sex scene and strong language alone would be fine at "12".
