I'd read somewhere that there'd be a fifth one set on Earth and that would be the concluding chapter.

But in related news, the first film is being re-released in cinemas with previously deleted scenes restored in time for it's ..... somethingth anniversary. Also another DVD boxset is being released.

See, I know that there has only been two good (that is, great) Alien films, so the form suggests more deteriation, and a lot depends on who they get to direct it. And I do find the idea of seeing a futuristic interpretation of Earth in the Aliens universe intreguing. But Ripley's thoughts altering reality!?! Oh. My. God. That sounds soooooooooooooo dodgy. Sounds like a straight to video flop.

Yeah I saw something about that...next year is the 25th anniversary so I imagine that's what it'll be. Be cool to see it on the big screen

The fifth film is expected to be set on Earth at a time when Earth is being attacked. Earth will be attacked by alien warrior drop ships (which were seen in the first 'Alien'). To make matters more interesting, the aliens make Earth into an incubator, leaving eggs everywhere.

See; there's a problem right there. The ship in Alien didn't belong to 'the' aliens. It belonged to the big dude with a hole in his chest. Do these people - not you, Spikeo; the zap2it people - actually engage their brains before they pass this stuff on, or do they just refuse to editorialise on the basis that they'd hate to hold something back when it happened to be right?

Of course, I wouldn't rule this out as a possibility, since quite often the makers of sequels ignore the originals.

So maybe the suggestion is that big dudes without holes in their chest use the aliens as cannon fodder, but that doesn't seem to make sense. I mean, if the big dude in the first film was a trained alien egg handler, how come he went the way of John Hurt?

Sounds to me like this is going the way of Alien3: Someone thought it'd be great to do another film and make some more cash, and _then_ they started thinking about what the plot should be.

I see no mention of Eliza D as a cloned Ripley junior (as has been rumoured before..albeit with little or no substance behind it but I don't care) so I'm not happy

There is only one way IMO to save this franchise and that is...... Aliens Vs Predator with Colonail Marines in the middle, this film has been developement for who knows how long

Youthful clone of. Outside of fanboy drooling I don't think the idea is that bad; if the cloning side of things was tweaked slightly so that they used Ripley DNA which was seperated from the alien DNA and so the clone was pure human, is it so wrong to put forward the idea of a young Ripley seeing what she has become and struggling not to lash out at or even (as she would see it) mercy kill her older self?

Am I really the only person who thinks Aliens vs Predator would be a film equivalent of an eight-year old child with a life times supply of lollypops?

I'd rather sit through Darkness Falls again than watch something as clumsy as Aliens vs Predator. Although chewing my right arm off probably would top either option.

Infinitely. But it all comes to the same thing - cash-ins on successful franchises. And smacks of a lack of ideas. I'm aware the concept already exists in print (though I thought it was comics and graphic novels rather than books), but they never appealed to me either, for the same reason.

I mean, would you really want to see a Norman Bates vs Jack Torrance movie?

But, hey, what do I know. Maybe it would explore new possibilities of the genre and be .. [edit]very[/edit] entertaining to boot. It just happens not to excite me as a concept.

If I remember correctly the entire premise behind AvP was that it was down to the predators the reason why the aliens where on different planets due to them capturing a queen and placing her on a populated planet. I personally would love to see this scene. Also I was disappointed how the Marines were portrayed in resurrection from the gung-ho hardnuts of aliens to a bunch of scaredy-cats.

i've seen the graphic novels and comics when i used to work in Fp but the books were much more detailed and sometimes funny with their ideas of other species (oooomans) but yeah pimpdaddy i think you saw a comic version of the books they originally released. i liked the idea that they take the alien eggs to other planets and let them hatch to hunt them down (flashback to Predetor2 where you spot the Alien skull on the wall) but again books are always better then film as in you can read about each characters history you cant pull that off very well on film.
