Why is it so tiny? I know nothing about cricket and have no interest either.

The story goes that on the first occasion that Australia beat Engalnd they burnt one of the bails (the little thigs that sit on top of the stumps) to mark the death of English cricket and then put the ashes in a little urn. That little trophey is a replica and is played for every time the two teams meet

It's tiny because it really is "the Ashes". About a million years ago when cricketers sported beards large enough to serve as camouflage for small children, we played a test series against the Aussies. Back then, everyone reeked at the game except us, although they were learning - hail glorious Imperialism!
