The Ashes

So....

The series is tied 1-1 thus far and England have put in a blinding performance at Old Trafford since Thursday morning. Vaughn has found his form again and the ozzies seem to be falling apart at the crease. Its within reason that they may have to follow on tomorrow morning and i'm ridiculously excited about the prospect (and mightily pissed off i couldn't get tickets)

Am I alone in my cricket enthusiasum or are there any other closet fans out there? Coz we all know that cricket and F1 are better than football

The story goes that on the first occasion that Australia beat Engalnd they burnt one of the bails (the little thigs that sit on top of the stumps) to mark the death of English cricket and then put the ashes in a little urn. That little trophey is a replica and is played for every time the two teams meet

It's tiny because it really is "the Ashes". About a million years ago when cricketers sported beards large enough to serve as camouflage for small children, we played a test series against the Aussies. Back then, everyone reeked at the game except us, although they were learning - hail glorious Imperialism!

Long story short - we lost.

Cue a great wailing and gnashing of teeth (a bit like when we're crap at football) and the bails were burned and placed in a small urn to mark "the death of English cricket".

That's what the little crappy brown pot is. A reminder that we're useless. Just in case we needed one.

Thank goodness for colonialism, or we'd never win ... *looks shiftily at our Zimbabwean coach and South African match-winner*

I might just have to watch Hampshire play next season seeing as we have both Shane Warne and Kevin Pieterson and the Rose Bowl is just down the road from me.

LOL. Just watching the victory parade and Flintoff looks well plastered on the bus.
